A.I for Laser Engraving has come a long way since its inception, and with the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), we’re witnessing a revolution in this field. As someone who’s been in the laser engraving industry for years, I’ve seen firsthand how AI is transforming our work, making it more efficient, precise, and creative. In this article, we’ll explore how AI is changing laser engraving and review some of the top AI-powered products that are leading this revolution.
How does A.I image creation work?
Unlike traditional illustrations where you would manually trace a hand drawn image that you have brought into software such as Illustrator or inkscape, A.I is incredibly fast and does most of the heavy lifting for you..
A.I uses a call to action called a “Prompt”. This is the input needed to render and image you choose. Pretty simply, if you want a cat sitting on the fence as your image your prompt will be “Cat sitting on the fence”.
From here you can set your styles, colours and any details that you want toto add to your image.
Here are the three things needed for A.I image creation:
- Prompt : The description of what image you want to create
- Style: What type of image are you creating
There are hundreds of different styles and themes to choose from for all different image types needed to create Laser engraving images.
From here we can go into more detail such as “Cat sitting on fence” might be “Cat sitting on fence with happy facial expressions” and then from there we can go into even more detail such as “Tabby cat sitting on fence with leather collar and eyes looking downward“
For creatives, A.I for Laser Engraving is changing the scene, and what a time to be alive, especially if you have minimal time to draw or create your own images or even to pay for every design you make for your creations.
Phot.ai has been on my radar for a while, and I thought I’d write a short run down of why I like it and how it can help you get more creative and save you time and money trying to find, download and pay for SVG images and other style image for my works.
There are other image creators like getimg.ai (which is still my go-to, although it is very detailed my novice) as well as a nice vector creator recraft.ai
Phot.ai
Phot.ai is an A.I for Laser Engraving photo editing tool that can be incredibly useful for preparing images for laser engraving, especially when it comes to create a.i to vector art.
Text to vector
This is a nice little example of how you can create vector files and clipart for your designs which are for commercial use. SVGS or scalable vectors graphics are the go-to image format for creating single colour cliparts or illustrations to create laser engraving images, and to create images of all sizes and is by far the best format to create high-resolution images. The results are a lot crisper when engraving as they are math based and not a pixel based image.
Creating a text to SVG image
1. Go to the text to vector section of the Phot.ai website
2. Insert a prompt in the text box on the left hand side. I would start with something simple, until you feel confident on how the software operates and so you don’t get instantly disappointed with the results.
3. Insert text : “create hummingbird flapping wings mid flight, black and white, line art. two colours, very simple graphics“
Below is a screenshot of the design panel on the left hand side of the screen, which sets the style of image you want to create.
Make sure you select Tattoo as the selected style, because the other settings will return vectors with high colour count, which results in choppy results.
3. Download your SVG result file using the download button in the top right of the screen
You can then download the results in SVG format, and if needed convert the SVG into whatever format you need by using a nice free tool Convertio if needed.
Below is the final output
As you can see the results are pretty impressive, although if you need very detailed output you may need to cleanup a few little spots in the image that you can see around the underwing and neck of the bird.
You can get different results from these images by changing the prompts.If you get an unwanted results try changing the prompts a little bit to get the desired results.
Here is a prompt for a large mouth bass i made with the vector tool.
Prompt : “A large mouth bass jumping out of the water, black and white vector art, svg illustration, black and white vector“
You can hit “generate” as many times as you want, which will return a different result until you are happy with one of the 4 results displayed.

Creating a 3d illusion A.I for Laser Engraving
Another feature within Phot.ai is the text to image function
Using this function in Phot.ai, you can create images to either create an image for your projects, or even sell these digital files on Etsy if you wish.
To create your own A.I for Laser Engraving 3d illusion images follow the steps below:
- Head over to A.I image creator and create an account. The account is free and gives you free credits to create your images.
- in the “Prompt” panel insert the following text. Prompt: “wooden 3d illusion of growling tigers head popping out of frame, monochrome in colour, with floral patterns around the border of the object”
This will give the A.I for Laser Engraving generator a subject on what image to create.
3. On the right hand side click how many images to generate. I would suggest 4,
4. Under “Style”, Click the Pattern,Sketch and Illustration image below the Prompt box.
You should have a similar settings panel to the image displayed below.
5. Click the “Generate” button at the bottom.
Your A.I for Laser Engraving images will now be generated and displayed at the bottom of the page in around 10 seconds.
You can then download a high-res version of this image to create your own laser engraving files or to sell on digital platforms such as Etsy if you wish.

Making money with A.I
If you wish, you can then sell these images, if you wish as your own creation. I normally make 4-500make between $400-500 a month with only 110 images that i’ve uploaded to Etsy. I do have my website which I offer all for free although some premium images I will list on Etsy.
